Introduction to Fractions
A fraction can describe equal parts of one whole. The denominator, below the fraction bar, tells how many equal parts make the whole. The numerator, above the bar, tells how many of those equal parts are being counted.

- numerator:
- The top number; it tells how many equal parts are being counted.
- denominator:

- 1In 1/2, the whole is split into 2 equal parts and 1 part is counted.
- 2In 3/4, the whole is split into 4 equal parts and 3 parts are counted.
