Line up decimal points so digits with the same place value are in one column. Add each column and place the decimal point in line with the others.

The dot separating whole and fractional parts.
place value:
The value of a digit because of its position.

Examples

  • 13.40 + 2.15 = 5.55.
  • 20.70 + 0.85 = 1.55.
